Mary .... I know today is supposed to be your last day before you have to go to shelters ... or at least that was the last I'd read about (granted, I'm waaaayyyy behind on my reads)
Has anything changed for you, or are you still having to close down shop?
My heart and prayers are with you and your girls ... and HAVE been for oh soo long!!!
I'm truly soo sorry that life has dealt you this AGAIN ... another shitty deal! :-( I'm still praying for an 11th hour miracle for you ... I know we seem to have an 11th hour, 59second God who seems to test our 'faith' ... however, I'm afraid that this may not happen for whatever reasons! :-( (this ... having a new and or your old place open up for you so you wont' hjave to do the shelter - shuffle)
Anyway, the only ONE good thing that really comes (came even when you first posted your devastating news) to mind about your having to close down shop and go to the shelters .... si that doing so will place you as a 'high priority' on the subsidized housing list --- IF your county still utilizes the prioritization thingie (can't 'member what they call it) Here, in Washington county (AR) they don't use the priority thing any more. you just go on a list and wait for your turn.
Anyway, whether the priorities thing is workable or not, if you haven't already filled out paperwork for subsidized housing from HUD ... please do so as soon as possible! as being homeless will put you into an area on thier housing list that will give you better 'points' on their criteria point list ... which will reduce the rents you would have to pay drastically (if any at all) for the HUD housing available.
Having NO income, being homeless, and needing ongoing medical care SHOULD get you a place quickly .... IF you have filled out the HUD paperwork.
Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your girls ... have been for quite some time! :-0) there's not a day doesnt' go by that I dont' send some positive energy your way!
the other question that has been burning holes in my brain ... will the shelter you are going to allow you to have Kenna there???? IF not, where will she go?? I forgot to metnion, I've sent lotsa prayers up for Kenna as well!
Anyway, I'm hoping that you'll be able to find a PERMANENT place really really quickly, as wintering in the shelters isn't a picnic by any means!!! shouldn't say hoping ... been desperately praying and believing an answer is on it's way for you and yours!
Faith-believin' answers comin' your way hugginz and luvinz!!!

For the moment, we're staying and fighting an illegal eviction. Trying to get section-8 in the meantime to relieve my parents of borrowing (rent) monthly from them while awaiting SSDI. More later when I know more... (Same bat time, same bat channel <g>).
Thanks for thinking of us, Debbie. :)

I don't know about the shelter, but when you get your section 8 housing, you need to have your duckies lined up.
You need to declare Kenna as a service animal--ask the county what the process is. Once Kenna is certified as a service animal, no one can ban you from taking her with you to your new home.
Jobie Lynn Christie (now... uh oh, forgot her new name), did this. Her posts may be in the archive.
Although I appreciate the guidance, Kenna's already been declared a service animal in training. When I went to get city tags, I asked if I needed to do anything special. They said that no, and as a matter of fact, my tags were free (a savings of $5 or so... but hey, every little bit helps).
I keep printed copies of the laws, in case I need to help spread factual info around to the powers that be. Had a major fight when I moved into this apartment complex. They wanted to demand that service or not, she be under 25 lbs and I argued that according to federal law that they would not be making *any* decisions about *my* service animal nor would they be charging me... besides, I'm 5'3" and not huge, but solid... how in the world would a chihuahua provide mobility assistance for me??? ;-) And that was prior to the seizures (and Kenna learning to predict them). I also keep copies of my doctor's prescription for a service dog (for me). Oh and I almost forgot, according to Federal Law, no certification is needed. Ever. Certification programs are available (and probably even helpful), but they are never required.
And it may sound like I'm splitting hairs, however I add that clarification because it is rather important to would-be self-trainers (that is, I would've gotten and begun training a service dog much earlier if I had known that official certification was not a requirement).
When I first got her, it was a bit of a gamble. I pretty much knew her personality type and that was it. Didn't know if she'd adapt to my training methods or if she'd really even want the job of mobility assistant. I've been pleasantly surprised that not only does she enjoy mobility assistance/seizure detection, but she also adapts to the fibro and will couch-potato with me too as needed. Nowadays, I'd be at quite a loss without her.
